about me

name: keith takeshi hirata
nickname: hakuna
ethnicity: 100% uchinanchu (okinawan)
cultural heritage: mixture of okinawan, japanese, hawaiian & american
languages: american english & japanese (student of okinawan & hawaiian)

i was born to kenji & kuniko and raised in chicago. i am the oldest of three and have two younger sisters keiko and aki.

god has blessed me with my own ohana (“family” in hawaiian) and i am married to amy and the lord has entrusted two incredible children to us, kyra and kaeden. next to my love and commitment to god, it is my most important and sacred calling – to be a faithful and loving husband and father.

my ohana is also god’s greatest blessing and source of joy in my life!

my first “welcome” blog entry:
allow me to acknowledge that i know there are millions of blogs out there and if you are here reading this, i am sincerely honored. it is my hope to present my thoughts & reflections on my life’s journey through this site.

my first purpose is simply to give me a place to reflect. my second hope is that because i have a tendency to see things from my own limited and narrow perspective, this becomes a place where you (thorough your comments) will help me “see” what i am missing but also share in what i am learning. lastly, the web has some incredible content and when i come across something worth sharing (entertaining or insightful), i will post it here for you.

so, whether you just visit once or return often, i hope you are blessed.

peace,

hakuna

aloha

alo = presence
hâ = (divine) breath

More than a word of greeting or farewell, it is a blessing. It is only
to be used with sincerity: “‘Aloha’ could not be thoughtlessly or
indiscriminately spoken, for it carried its own power. No Hawaiian
could greet another with ‘Aloha’ unless he felt it in his own heart.
If he felt anger or hate in his heart, he had to cleanse himself
before he said ‘Aloha’.” ~Queen Lili`uokalani

loved your blog. Have you read Lord of the Flies? Might be time to take it out again. It is a near perfect parallel to your bumfights story–and amazing what a heart of darkness mankind has. ALOHA.

thanks karen! i have read lord of the flies although it’s been a while but do recall it’s message a bit. power without god’s check is always evil it seems. i see it in myself and know that without the spirit’s presence in my life, i would indeed use every tool (economic, intellectual, physical power) that i had for my own personal gain!
